On paper, I put my title as 3D environment and prop artist. But in reality, I have so many interest in game development, art and tech. I am notorious for starting new projects and terrible at completing them, unless they are paid projects! Money does add priority to things 😀
Since I touch so many different aspect of development, my notebooks were pretty chaotic. On top of that, since some projects were super short, it often took me a while to remember how to do things, or where I put the notes on those projects.
A few years ago, I was part of Oculus Launchpad. As part of the requirement for their scholarship program, we were required to write a weekly blog to show progress of our project for 12+ weeks. At first I found it hard to do, since putting my thoughts in writing was taking a lot of time and energy. Half a year later, I met a client who needed help with developing a VR experience on GearVR, and boy I kept looking back into that blog for information.
As I work mainly in Unity, it was pretty easy to look up information on the internet. However, I used to take for granted that the web was unchanged, and articles would always be available anytime. Nope nope nope! Websites disappeared, links could be broken. I couldn’t count how often I wished I spent the time to record things to save my life.
So, let’s hope this notebook can save my future self some headache.
